Lucy
English lives in Bristol. She was born in Shri Lanka and grew up
in Ruislip. After leaving the University of East Anglia with a BA
in English and American Literature she lived in the countryside
in tied cottages, growing her own vegetables, keeping a goat and
having babies.
In
1985 she moved to Bristol and worked on the Windmill Hill City Farm
until 2000. Since being bored out of her box in Devon with three
small children she started writing and in 1994-5 took an MA in creative
writing. In December 1996 Fourth Estate signed her up for a three
book deal.
Lucy
is a lecturer in Creative Writing at Bath Spa University College
where she is committed to introducing performance poetry onto the
syllabus.
In 2003 she was appointed Royal Literary Fellow at the University
of Swansea

Lucy English has been commissioned to be artistic director for the Exposed Poetry Tour which toured the UK in Autumn 2006
EXPOSED is Apples & Snakes’ most ambitious collaborative project to date, with twenty performances across the UK, sixteen partner organisations and five touring artists (one from each of the Apples & Snakes regions). It is one of the biggest national poetry tours ever programmed. Each of the artists has been commissioned to write a twelve-minute piece on the theme of ‘exposed’. They explore issues of personal, political and environmental exposure through performance styles ranging from formal metre to hip hop, storytelling and free verse.
EXPOSED will be breathtakingly beautiful, thought provoking and inspiring!
The poets are: Claire Williamson (South West) Polar Bear (West Midlands), Stickman (East Midlands), David J (London) and Yussra Warsama (North West).
EXPOSED will also feature local guest poets and comperes at each of its tour venues.

WORDFEST Lucy will appear at Wordfest, the Calgary and Banff literary festival in October 2006. She will perform poetry and run workshops.
