AIRGEDLÁMH: AN IRISH FANTASY FICTION MAGAZINE
In 1980,
Stephen Jones and David Sutton published this 35-page magazine
(pronounced "Air-ged-laf") as a tribute to editor Dave McFerran, who
had
died that same year of cancer, just a few days short of his 26th birthday.
The A4 format
publication contained fiction and poetry by Simon R. Green,
Adrian Cole (a new "Voidal" novella), Gordon Larkin, John Hurley and
Marion
Pitman; an interview with Irish artist Jim FitzPatrick; artwork by
FitzPatrick, Stephen E. Fabian, John Stewart, Stephen Jones, Gene Day and
Jim Pitts (who contributed the two-colour cover), and personal
reminiscences by Peter Tremayne and Karl Edward Wagner.
AIRGEDLÁMH
was limited to just 500 numbered copies, with all profits
donated to Cancer Research. It won the British Fantasy Award for best Small
Press publication for that year.
Now, twenty-two
years later, a small number of "over-run" copies have been
found in a box in an attic. These are unnumbered and, except for occasional
scuff marks or minor blemishes, in near-mint condition.
These are
now being offered on a first-come, first-served basis for just
6.00 pounds in the UK and $12.00 in the USA, including postage & packing.
